I Pray

I PrayI’ll never know what I can’t learn
I’m not allowed to speak, how can I teach
I’m told what to believe
And how to think
I’m wrong, when I don’t want the same things
I’ve had it up to here
With a world full of hatred and fear
Helpless, hopeless, here I stand
Bleeding, weeping, there’s blood on my hands
So, I fall to my knees
And I pray

I pray for the little girl who doesn’t know love,
But she’s safe and warm, I pray that’s enough
I pray for the woman whose body betrays her to illness and disease
And the woman whose heart grieves
I pray for the daughter whose mom’s mind is fading away
I wish I could, but I can’t take away her pain
For the son who isn’t ready to let go,
There’s nothing I can do, so I pray for you.
I pray for him, and for her and for the words they speak.
I pray they’re kind, I pray they’ll think.
I pray for the hearts of us all
That they might be filled
That no more people are killed

You’ll never know what I don’t learn
You’re not allowed to speak, how can you teach
Told what to believe
And how to think
You’re wrong, when you don’t want the same things
Haven’t you had it up to here
With a world full of hatred and fear
Helpless, hopeless, there you stand
Pleading, weeping, there’s blood on your hands
Fall to your knees
And pray

Pray for the young and the old
Pray for those out in the cold
Pray for the strong and the weak
Pray for change and pray for peace
Pray for me and I’ll pray for you
Pray because it’s something easy you can do

They’ll never know what they can’t learn
They’re not allowed to speak, or just be
They’re told what to believe
And how to think
Because they’re wrong, when they don’t want the popular things
They’ve had it up to here
With a world full of hatred and fear
Helpless, hopeless, they don’t want to stand
Pleading, weeping, with blood on their hands
They fall to their knees
And pray

We’ll never know what we don’t learn
If we’re not allowed to speak, how can we teach
No one can tell us what to believe
or how we should think
We’re not wrong, when we don’t want the same things
When we’ve had it up to here
With a world full of hatred and fear
We won’t be helpless or hopeless
Together here we stand
No longer pleading, Bleeding, weeping, there’s blood on my hands
So, let us fall to our knees
And  pray
